Please, Hassan, elaborate on your perception that the U.S. is a failed state.

If the U.S. is a failed state, then the rest of the world, applying your standards, is a destitute, abysmal and unforgivable place.

The U.S. leads the world in every field of research, has the best universities, the most innovative companies, the most entrepreneurial culture, and, yes, we have unabashed military might. ’Nuff said.

As for Alaska, California and Texas. Alaska and most of California were fairly bought by the U.S. Only Texas was conquered via was not by the U.S. government, but by American settlers in Texas. And for awhile, Texas remained a sovereign nation due to the fact that the U.S. The Republic of Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 {this, republic, was by the way a lot smaller than present-day Texas] and was not admitted to the Union until July 4, 1845.

Marco Villa,
Thank you for your detailed and -considering the situation- extremely polite reply.I shall make an attempt to give a detailed reply including my take on your version of American history in a blog this Sunday or latest by Monday. You will appreciate the subject requires a more detailed examination then is possible in a comment.

But consider this.

I know a man who was brought up in a loving ,respected and wealthy family. His father sent him to the best University he knew -in fact an American one. Then married him to the most beautiful and cultured girl in town. After his fathers death the guy inherited his portion of the fathers wealth;which was sufficient to set him up independently in big business and also enable him to live in the best properties with a ’mughals’ life style.
But the guy always felt the division of assets left him with much lesser then what his father had..and so he embarked on his quest to earn more.Being intelligent, determined ,as well as a man of means, there was little to stop him from achieving his objectives.

And so over the next 50-60 years he embarked on a ’purposeful and single minded’ journey to achieve his objectives. He worked hard ;but also where needed he wheeled and dealed and bought and fought and lied and cried and wined and dined his way to that objective. With the result that he made many enemies and few friends;and somewhere along the way between his wining and dinings ;leave alone his brothers and sisters - his wife and children also left him.

Today the man is in his eighties -and the richest man in the region. He lives in a palatial house with his third wife - who is as old as one of his grand children.Of course he has never had the pleasure of welcoming or even meeting his grand children - and the whole world knows his young wife hangs around only waiting for the old man to die so she can get his wealth.

Even the people of the town hate him for what he did to gain his excessive wealth;and the few who surround him are his employees and those hoping to gain from him.
Now for all his wealth and power would you call such a man a failed or a successful one?
