There are conflicting stories about what happened - or caused - the clashes between Saudi Shias and the Saudi Sunni security forces.
Some report that a Saudi official from the infamous religious police was secretly filming Shias women pilgrims and when their husbands found out they protested. Instead of discipling one of their own, the religious police arrested the protesting Shias men. This in turn sparked riots in the second’s holiest site of Islam Medinat el-Nabee. That was one story.
But there is the conflicting story that riots were caused by Shias who sought to discreet the tomb of Ali, the fourth calipha for Muslims and the first Imam for Shias, in order to exhume his remains. It was then, the report, goes that the Saudi police intervened and then riots broke out. This video supports the second report:
What do I believe? I think the truth is in both. The Shias did seek to exhume Ali’s remains, and this is incredibly sinful, and a Saudi religious officer was also filming Shias women.
But the question here is: are the riots foreshadowing even bigger ones to come?
