Lebanese can be forgiven for not knowing whom is Walid Maalouf for the man has spent the last few decades living in the United States.

He made his name in right-wing circles, working with American Zionists and right-wing Lebanese-Americans. He did a stint with USAID. He was a liaison for the Bush campaign into the Lebanese-American community. He once also founded a Phoenician Club in North Carolina. You see, to Lebanese with an inferiority complex who hate their Muslim neighbors; they refuse to accept their Arab identity. Instead, since the 1950s a grotesque brand of Lebanese nationalism formed that lead some Lebanese to actually believe the delusion that they are not Arabs but actually Phoenicians. Sorry to tell them, but the Phoenicians no longer exist and their glory was never in Lebanon but in Carthage, Tunisia.

Maalouf was bored with life in Washington and he decided to run for a parliamentary seat in Lebanon. He wanted to join the now victorious March 14 coalition but his record of pro-Israel pontification was too much baggage for March 14 [and this is a coalition that includes the terrorist thugs whom committed the Sabra and Chatila massacre against Palestinians] and Maalouf was forced to run as an independent.

How did he fare? His opponent got 60,000 votes while Maalouf got an outstanding 922 votes. And this douchbag actually thought he had a chance. I guess it back to sucking up to the “White Man” in Washington.
