What’s the point of Twitter?

Is is not enough for some people to maintain a blog updated every hour, do they now really need to update every five minutes?
This is not to say that some Twitter accounts cannot be interesting. But, really, this is got to be one of the most narcissistic things ever. What kind of pompous a@#$%*e thinks that he is so full of wisdom that people should be updated on his thoughts and doings every few odd minutes in short sentences?
It is not just Hollywood celebrities that Twitt, that can be expected out of a ego-driven industry. But now American politicians, including John McCain, have gotten into the act. And with great dedication.
While President Obama was delivering his State of the Union address, he suffered the indignity of watching members of Congress with their heads down Twitting on their mobile phones. Is this how a member of Congress, or anyone for that matter, behave in front of the president.
I am one of those people who is greatly impressed by the ever increasing innovation of Silicon Valley and the like. But technology should not turn us into disconnected zombies. What is our society turning into?
Have we become a society where personal contact is less values because, after all, we can communicate via Twitter, Facebook, MSN, ect...
Twitting just makes people become more egocentric, more obsessed with their own lives because they are so keen to record everything that happens to them.
Now everyone, no matter how dump and boring, has a blog because it’s the “me, me, me, me, me” generation. Does everyone need a Twitter account too? Do most people really believe that they are so interesting that even those who known them will care to follow their daily events?
Wake up, world! And get over yourself.
