The Tunisian government has announced that the first case of H1N1 virus, or Swine flu, has been registered in the country. Such a case is the first in the Maghreb officially cited.
The Health Ministry said that the case involved two Tunisian men who arrived from the United States.
They men, according to the Ministry, are said to be in good health and being monitored.
The Tunisian government took steps to prevent an outbreak when the Swine flu outbreak first started. The government mandated the slaughter of all wild boar. Wild boar is maintained not for the citizenry in this Muslim country, but for visiting Europeans. The government’s preventive measure was dubious since the United Nations ruled that random killing of pigs does not protect against an outbreak.
Since late April when it was discovered in Mexico, Swine flu has killed around 180 people.
