The Signs are there...literally.

In order to accommodate mostly Arabic-speaking Sephardi and Mazrihi Jews moving to Israel, the state in its early declared Arabic to be an official language. [By the way, while most Oriental Jews left their homes under duress, which were incited by Israel’s actions; the state of Israel was no welcoming refugee. Instead, the European Jews look down their Oriental brethren and Oriental Jews face discrimination in the Jewish state. Read the book by Israeli historian Tom Segev, 1949, to see how European Jews treated Oriental Jews like serfs.]

Because of the official Arabic language law, all Israeli streets signs [government documents, ect...] must appear in Arabic alongside Hebrew. O’ vey.

Most Israelis, whether they hate or like Arabs, presumably do not mind the Arabic writing. It has been there for decades now and no one seriously suggests undoing Arabic as an official language. But a group of far-right Israelis, an increasingly group in an increasingly more-militant nation, detest the sight of the Arabic language. To them the language is the language of intruders and terrorists, of the Palestinians.

It also is an affront to the Zionist myth that the land of Palestine is “a land without a people for a people without a land.” If Arabic is there, even though it was made to be to cater to Jewish immigrants not “Arab-Israelis,” then is means that the Arabs are a part of the land, that their language is proof of their own heritage to the land. This is an affront to the Zionist creed which refuses to recognize that Arabs have any claim to the land.

After all, Israel’s far-right Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu recently spoke about the Jewish “people” have God-given rights to the land while the Palestinians are merely some sort of “population” whom were transplanted out of no where on the land of the Jewish people and, unlike Jews, have no legitimate claims to the land.

Every Arabic street sign is a challenge to the bigoted, supremacist rhetoric of Netanyahu and his ilk. They cannot stand the Arabs and they believe that it is only Jews whom have exclusive rights to the land.

That is why recently, a group of militant-activists [not to say militant-mentality, which includes a lot more of the population] have been going around Israel defacing the Arabic on street signs:

This is simply the logical conclusion of Zionism. If Palestinians can be ethnically cleansed, killed and starved, what is the defamation of a street sign?

And this is actually a marked improvement for such racists, they usually spray-paint “Arabs to the Gas Chambers” on walls.

Fortunately, a group of decent Israelis have taken to the streets to place Arabic stickers [see above] on top of the graffiti. May their numbers multiple.
