The Hypocrisy of, Yet, Another Republican

It was almost become like clockwork. Republicans who have spent years preaching morality and against the “decadence” of liberal culture, feminism and gay marriage turn out to be huge hypocrites who practice what they condemn.

Now, to the Republican Hypocrite Hall of Shame we can add Nevada Senator John Ensign. Ensign strongly condemned Bill Clinton’s extramarital affair and is a supporter of a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage because gay marriage ostensible threatens the traditional marriage that Ensign practices.

Ensign is so fond of heterosexual marriage that he sought to practice it in two forms; first with his wife and then with a mistress. But it is gays that threaten his marriage not his infidelity.

Recently, Ensign has confessed to having any affair and has stopped down from Republican leadership as a result. Not only that. Ensign has also engaged in public corruption in his affair. No, he didn’t use his Senate office for sex. But he did provide favors for the son of the woman he was cheating on.

The 19-year-old son of the mistress was employed for “research policy consulting” by the Republican National Committee and paid $5400 between March-August 2008 at Ensign’s behalf. His work with the RNC ended when the affair ended, as Ensign has publicly stated.

This isn’t corruption worthy of prosecution because the Republican party is a private institution and employers are not, of course, paid by taxpayers.

But still pretty corrupt and morally deprived.
