Besides blocking access to food and construction to Palestinians in the Gaza Stripe - and even to a lesser degree in the West Bank - Israel also prevents Palestinians from enjoying an education.
Every year, dozens of Palestinians are given scholarship to study at elite Western universities. But the Palestinians are Gaza are being collectively punished and Israel will not even make exception for those Palestinians who want to study abroad. Not only is that beyond cruel since youth are being punished for events beyond their control and the Palestinians studying abroad in no way aid Hamas. Further, it goes against Israel’s own policy of trying to reduce the Arab population in Palestine.
The whole purpose of this policy is nothing more than another attempt by the cruel, immoral and illegitimate state to demoralize the Palestinians. By denying Palestinian youth the ability to study abroad Israel not only wants to undermine the economic productivity of Palestinians but to create a sense of despair among the Palestinians are a defeated people.
Israel is chasing mirage. The Palestinian people have been beaten and had their lands occupied for a century now, and yet they do not give in or give up.
Every petty occupation hold is reflective only of Israel’s fear of the inevitable: the end of Zionism in Palestine.
As the Angry Arab writes:
When I read such blatant racism from leaders of Israel I say to myself: they deep down know of the fate of Zionism. They deep down know that Israel will be a small historical (and shameful) footnote. They deep down know that ancestors of the Palestinian refugees will be serving as ministers in that usurping entity–after its liberation.
American Jewish, anti-Zionist journalist Philip Weiss recently spoke with two such Palestinians:
One in New York:
Another in Gaza:
