This week, the entire world celebrated the 20th year anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Built by the communist East German “Democratic Republic of Germany,” the Wall was meant to trap inside East Germans so they will not leave for the free West Berlin (Berlin being a city within West Germany).

A sign of the moral bankruptcy and cruelty of communism, it stood also as an self-crafted indictment against communist inefficiency.

Hundreds faced death and some the end seeking to cross over. The fall of the Wall marked the near end of the Cold War and a victory for liberty and capitalism (which is a necessary condition for liberty) around the world. Many spoke thereafter about the “end of history.” After all, history is the fight between ideas, but with communism/socialism defeated and the free market reigning supreme there would be no more great struggles of ideas as one idea - capitalism - established hegemonic support over the world.

The Berlin Wall fell. It took decades, but it fell.

A few years ago, the state of Israel started building (and has nearly finished) its own designed to annex more Palestinian land and cage the Palestinians while denying them rights. What many have dubbed the Israeli Apartheid or Annex Wall is built not on the 1967 Green Line with much of it built inside the occupied West Bank. It expropriates 8% of the West Bank, divides Palestinian farmers from their land and one Palestinian community from another. The holy city of Bethlehem is nearly encircled.

The Wall has been deemed illegal by the International Criminal Court, but Israel does not fear sanctions given the veto power at the Security Council by its subservient and complicity U.S. patron.

Palestinians and people all over the world have protested the Wall, and if you visit it you’ll find every single language written on it. Palestinians have protested the construction and presence of a Wall that denies them their natural rights, they protest peacefully only to be met by Israeli bullets, tear gas and arrests followed by torture. In the same manner that East German policy beat up freedom-seeking East Berliners.

The Palestinians today stand as the heirs of East Berliners fighting for freedom and Israel’s Wall stands as the Berlin Wall and an indictment against the immorality, bankruptcy, cruelty and illegitimacy of Zionism.

And like the Berlin Wall and communism, the Apartheid Wall and Zionism will win day fall to joy heard around the world. The Palestinians are hastening the day as we speak:
