Ahmadinejad Steal the Election?

Iran :

After much excitement about the Iranian election and the huge turnout that cause authorities to extend voting hours four times, the Interior Ministry declared hawkish incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinajad the winner with an outstanding 69% of the vote.

Ahmadinejad Steal the Election?

This came as a shock, not only did the incumbent win but also with such a high percentage of the vote. His main opponent, whom inspired the young, got 28% of the vote and lost his hometown according to authorities. Another opponent got only 1% of theh vote, again according to authorities.

This has raised suspicion. The main opponent, Mir Hossein Mousavi , has declared victory and accused the authorities of rigging the election in Ahmadinejad’s favor. The Iranian Supreme Ayotallah is known to favor Ahmadinejad. There have already been clashed between police and Mousavi supports. The authorities have blocked all text messaging to prevent the young from organizing quick protests.

The Obama administration has weighed in and called it “not credible” that Mousavi would lose his hometown and the second opponent get only 1% of the vote.

The prospect of further clashes in Iran may ignite another 1979-style revolution that could depose the ruling Mullahs to at least bring about great change. Iranian has a broad middle class, but more importantly the population is majority-under-30 so there are a lot of students that can more easily be mobilized for protests. Many Iranians, especially the young, are tired by the rigid conservatism of their Mullahs and this election could be what triggers a strong backlash.

If such a backlash does, indeed, happen the world should support the side of freedom.

I think we need to just accept that people chose, I bet if an American supporter won, no one would have called it as ”not credible”.

You are right, every where where pro America people win, elections are called free and fair and any where, where majority of people choose the Anti America rulers elections are termed as rigged. The pro America media is responsible for this.

Did the people really choose?
I really wonder as so many candidates were not allowed to even stand - only those that the supreme Ayotalla gave the nod to.
I feel for the Iranians especially the surpressed younger generation who want to breath and taste freedom.
They are the majority so it will have to come one day, when the old croneys drop off their perch.

Hey Lynne :)

I really don’t believe the media anymore, I just think that America should stay out of it, they’ve done enough harm other places for butting into similar incidences, and we all know that they only disagree when they don’t like the person in position, while the world suffers from lots of governments that shouldn’t be in position, yet they fail to do anything about those ones.

Now about Iran, if the majority REALLY don’t want him in position, then I’m sure they are able to do something about it!

Why the people of developed countries think that their democracy is superior. People of Iran have voted for Ahmdinejad and he will lead the country in right direction with out any fear of America and the developed countries.

We were accepting a change in regime here. People are stunned by the election results. Mr. Ahmdinejad has rigged the polls.

Hi Wa’d

America should definately stay out of other countries politics, but then they should not be called upon to be the policemen either when things go wrong.
I think America has had its day for being a world power and is on the decline.
The majority of people are not stupid and eventually they will sense when there is corruption or they have had enough.
I just hope that Iran doesn’t erupt into a bloody revolution, but you cannot keep supressing the young people in an old time warped system, they have a right to express themselves and change their country and the world for the better....I believe they have fresh hopes and Ideas for tomorrow.

As for my opinion and experience of the media - it isn’t very good, they just suit their own governments and agender, you just cannot believe everything you hear or see in the media, its usually distorted and twisted.

I agree Lynne, and I still have faith in humanity; I’m sure they will do sthg about it if they really don’t agree with it, otherwise, they need to live with the consequences of their choices, unless they really like his regime, then that would be a population’s choice which should be respected.

Have a nice day :) (or maybe its night right now in Australia, dono :P)

I don’t think the majority of people in any country like to be controlled or restricted for too long if they don’t feel its benificial to them.

Every one should have the right to access knowledge and information to learn and gain understanding but I don’t think this is available to the people in Iran or some other countries which are heavily censored, that way their corupt leaders can stay in power and control the masses through fear and ignorance, but noawadays I don’t think it can last and there will have to be a change eventually for the better I hope.

Even editing or censoring propaganda in its various forms is insulting the intelligence of people who know history and the cynical motives and also the honest motives of various vested interests.
By gaining knowledge on forums like this with free and honest debate and argument, people gain all view points.
Censoring and inhibiting political discussion is detrimental to the wellbeing of average people who are at the mercy of those in power.
Arguments and debates inform people of propergander and counter propergander as well.
