Many marriages are loveless, and then turn bitter with the husband and wife shouting obscenities at one another so cruel that one wonders why they even stay together for a single day more. Needless to say, arranged marriages - which are the norm in Saudi society - are more likely to turn out this way since the couple never had much of a grace period - so to speak - before getting hitched. Love is almost never present at the start of the marriage, and if the couple is lucky it will develop overtime. But if it stays loveless, than it can be a prison for the couple to remain in such a union.
One Saudi man apparently thought so, considering his marriage, his wife to be an insufferable place and woman. For the marriage to be a trap without daylight, without hope and with constant torture. So much so that this Saudi man had his wife’s number in his mobile phone listed as “Guantanamo.”
Loveless marriages, indeed, turn bitter. But imagine one man considering his time with his wife to be akin to being forcibly detained in a solitary-confinement prison cell where you’re tortured repeatedly and where the only fresh air is through a barbered wire. That is hell. I feel sorry for a wife to be described like that. But feel sorrier for the man to feel like coming home is beyond dreadful. And, finally, I must say that it is funny that a man would actually resort to labeling his “Guantanamo.” Is she that awful? She’s just that much of a pain in the ass. I wonder is any Jewish man ever labeled a wife he despised “Auschwitz”.
Needless to say, when his wife got a hold of her husband’s perception of her she was greatly offended. And is now suing him for DIVORCE. Or, at least, monetary compensation. Good to know she still loves him and values a loving relationship if they are going to stay together.
After 17 years, the man may finally be liberated. Maybe in a few years we can stay that about some of the detainees (the innocent ones) at Gitmo.
