Since the Gulf War, Saddam Hussein become America’s preeminent enemy. More than just the de jour face of evil for U.S. news, the tyrant become the butt of late night comedy jokes and televisions shows.
South Park, America’s most edgy show and one of its funniest, was no exception. The Comedy Central show has lampooned Saddam as a spoiled gay man in a love affair with Satan. Not the most flattering portrayal for a men obsessed with presenting himself as an epic warrior, a new Saladin; to say the least.
Well, it turns out that while held captive by U.S. troops, Saddam was made to watch the classical film South Park: Bigger, Larger, and Uncut several times. Saddam was often featured on the show, but I think he made his debut in the film.
Whether Saddam enjoyed the film we may never know. But South Park creators Tony Parker and Matt Stone expressed great joy and found it quite fitting that Saddam watched their movie.
They were also presented with a signed photo of Saddam by the guarding U.S. troops. Whether the signing was voluntarily is unknown.
It may have been contrary to the Geneva Conventions for Saddam to be made to watch his own mockery. Sadistic, no? But, of course, that is the least indignation Saddam could be put through.
