This September will mark the 27th year since the Sabra and Chatila massacre. It took place in Beirut with Israel’s invasion of Lebanon in 1982.
Israel has secured its objective of forcing out the PLO, whom were sent packing to Tunis. The Palestinians who remained where the mostly unarmed refugees.
Fascist, sectarian Christian militia, armed and trained by Israel, committed a massacre that is so horrific that it is hard to even think and write about. Israel facilitated the massacre. Israeli troops stood outside the Sabra and Chatila camps as the Phalange militia men drove in and out over a period of three days. And at night Israel provided flares so that the Phalange could kill in the reflection of light.
The Israeli Kahan Commission used deceptively language, but, nonetheless, it found Israel’s then Defense Minister war criminal Arial Sharon “indirectly” responsible for the massacre. This did not bother the Israeli people whom latter voted him their prime minister.
The massacre targeted everyone. Women were raped. Children were killed. Babies torn up and throne in the trash. Men and children lined up against a wall and shot. Pregnant women had their stomachs slashed.
Janet Lee Stevens was an American working in Beirut during the massacre and a witness before the Israeli Kahan Commission Inquiry. He was killed in the bombing against the U.S. Embassy in Beirut in 1983. He wrote this:
“I saw dead women in their houses with their skirts up to their waists and their legs spread apart; dozens of young men shot after being lined up against an ally wall; children with their throats slit, a pregnant woman with her stomach chopped open, her eyes still wide open, her blackened face silently screaming in horror; countless babies and toddlers who had been stabbed or ripped apart and who had been thrown into garbage piles”.
No one knows the exact death toll. Estimates vary from more than 800 to more than 3,000. All of them will forever be remembered and their deaths will not be in vain.
For those Americans who still defend Israel, look and think about what Israel and its allies have done. Whenever you think of Israel, think of these photos.

A Palestinian woman holds up photos of her relatives killed in the massacre. The young boy in both photos is her son and the girl in the photo on the right is her daughter.
The first woman is crying “where are the Arabs, where?”
Where?
