Sweden was so worried about protesters at the Davis Cup tournament when Israel’s Andy Ram, among others, was scheduled to play, that it actually banned most exhibitioners for Ram’s game and all the other Israeli games, which were all on the same day. Only 300 special guests were allowed to watch.
But that did not stop over 7,000 outside demonstrates coming to Malmo to register their opposition to Israel’s infamous Gaza invasion and attack in front of the stadium. The protesters were organized under the banner Stop the Match, calling on the David Cup to suspend Israeli participation.

The protesters were mostly peaceful, but some clashed with police in an effort to enter the stadium and in the process trashed the surrounding area a bit. They threw rocks and firecrackers at police who used truncheons to combat the protesters. 100 people were temporary apprehended and 6 were arrested. Sweden’s Left Party leader Lars Ohly stated to the gathered crowd that the European Union and the world “should boycott the racist regime in Israel.”
Protesters also spread out to other parts of the city.
Andy Ram regretted that a crowd was not allowed to attend because it was “like playing a practice match.”
He also said this about the protests, “They broke everything here and the images are distressing and disgusting.”
You know what is disgusting? The killing of innocent children, which Israel just killed over 400 of them in its barbaric attack on Gaza.
Israelis should get used to such receptions, and deservedly so.
