The election of the first Black president has brought out the extremes in American society. Prior to and after Barack Obama’s election, gun and ammo sales in America reaches record levels with many stores reporting out-of-stock for a few days. Many of the purchases were assault weapons likes M-16s.
Gun owners feared that Obama was planning to take away their guns or at least restrict future purchases to only hand-held guns or something of that order; if not entirely ban future sales.
But more than that there is the belief that Obama is a socialist - for the record: anyone who believes in the redistribution of wealth is a socialist to some degree and that makes nearly everyone in Washington a socialist - and that this socialist and probably Muslim Obama was planning to embark on radical change in America.
The opposition to Obama is simply beyond any rational coherence. Protesters - or mobs more accurately - showing up at health care Town Halls are demanding they want “their America back” and that they have never seen “their America” descend like this. The fear Obama’s intentions and believe that he is also illegitimate in their false claim that he really was born in Kenya and thus his sitting as president is unconstitutional. These people it really comes down to one thing: race.
They see a Black president and feel that White America is slowly losing power. Right-wing talks show hosts - led by “Boss Limbaugh” to quote Keith Olbermann - only stroke the fires portraying Obama as a man who hates his country and is out to destroy it. Talk-radio and Fox News show host Glenn Beck has accused Obama of being a racist with a “deep-seated hatred of White people.” Fmr. Republican Vice-President nominee Sarah Palin has stated that Obama’s health care panel would usher in “death panels” that would deny medical care to those deemed unworthy. Her statement was an outright lie, she was referring to an amendment proposed by a REPUBLICAN that would fund end-of-life counseling.
Given all the fear and hysteria been promoting by right-wing voices that this is happening:
“Right-wing militia groups are on the rise in the United States after nearly a decade of obscurity, according to a new report from the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which monitors hate groups and extremist activity.”
If another Oklahoma bombing by a right-wing fanatic takes place it will be on the hands of the Limbaughs, Becks, and Palins.
