Prophet Muhammad and Hollywood, Take Two

Hollywood gives it another shot in telling the story of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad and the early days of Islam.

A new film titled “The Messenger of Peace” will go into production soon. Hollywood director Ramsey Thomas, who also directed Boiler Point and Halloween, will write the script for the film and filmmaker Oscar Zoghbi, who also worked on the first Muhammad film, will director and produce.

This will be only the second film on Prophet Muhammad to be made in Hollywood. The first one was Moustapha Akkad’s “The Message”. That film was released in 1977 and financed by Gulf Arab Monarchs. Although the funding of this second is not yet known, it will most likely be also funded by one or more Gulf nations.

Zoghbi stated in an interview that this film will employ move advanced cinematography techniques to gave audiences a more breathtaking view of Arab. And unlike “The Message”, which concentrated mostly on the divisions and conflict of the between the first Muslims and the polytheistic tribes of Mecca, this new film “will focus wholly on the rich values common to all Muslims, like compassion and tolerance.”

In accordance with Islamic law prohibiting the depiction of Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet will not be shown directly in the movie by will, simply, be recognized through his followers.

No release date yet.

Author’s Note: Moustapha Akkad was killed in an Al-Qaeda bombing at a Jordanian hotel in 2005.

When Islamic laws prohibits the depiction of Prophet Muhammad or any one dead, then how the film’ll come out.If the Prophet will not be shown directly then whats the alternate way and whats the purpose of movie then.
Lets hope the movie brings out the true picture of Islam and spreads the true meaning of Islam and peace.

I agree with you that if Prophet Muhammad is not shown directly in the film, how can it have an impact on the audience? This is quite extraordinary, don't you think so? There should be complete depiction of the great man as Jesus was played by Mel Gibson in Passion of the Christ.

Yet another attempt for the greedy to earn money by depicting the Prophet in moving images. The actor who plays his role would have the Islamic extremist hounds running after him all his life. Please spare the world now.

I am eagerly awaiting the movie's release. This will probably help erase many stereotypes the non-Muslim world holds for our religion and clear a few doubts. I hope the movie enlightens the whole world about Islam and its message.

Muhammad was the greatest person on this earth. He was Allah's messenger. He was the one who showed light to the world. His teachings must be propagated in any form that requires to enlighten the world. I don't mind Hollywood.

There is no need for depiction, what matters is the words not the physical representation of the Prophet. It works just fine without an actor; watch ”The Message” and you’ll see what I mean. Unlike Jesus for Christians, the Prophet is a mortal for Muslims. We does not need to be shown as some super-human figure, because he is not and, besides the point, any depiction is prohibited.
