It is official: Palestinians outplace Jews in the Holy Land. America’s State Department states such:
Based on its pre-1967 borders, the country has an area of 7,685 square miles. The country has a population of 7.4 million (including settlers living in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem), of which 5.6 million are Jews, 1.5 million are Arab Muslims and Christians, and 320,000 are classified as “other”–mostly persons from the former Soviet Union who immigrated under the Law of Return but who did not qualify as Jews according to the Orthodox Jewish definition used by the Government for civil procedures. . .
The West Bank (excluding East Jerusalem) has an area of 2,238 square miles and a population of 2.4 million persons, not including approximately 300,000 Israelis. East Jerusalem has an area of 27 square miles, and its population is 415,000, including approximately 180,000 Israelis. The Gaza Strip has an area of 143 square miles and a population of 1.5 million.
To sum up the math: 5.735 million Palestinians to 5.6 million Jews.
This is the nightmare of Zionism. In 1948, the nascent state of Israel ethnically cleansed roughly 800,000 Palestinians (the Nakba) and refused them their right-to-return in an effort to establish a Jewish majority.
Since then Israel had maintain a Jewish majority between the Jordan river and the Mediterranean Sea. But the Arab birth rate is higher than the Jewish, and Jewish immigration has greatly decreased. In Israel “proper,” Arab citizens of the state already make up nearly a quarter of the population at 1.5 million persons.
Israel will seek to avoid the issue, but when activists can cite the U.S. State Department Israel will not be able to any longer deny the apartheid framework in existence: Minority Jews ruling majority Arabs.
Of course, Israel and its allies will not be bothered by such statistics. They are opposed to Palestinian rights no matter the demography. Their zealotry to Zionist dogma is so strong, why makes anyone believe that it would all of a sudden change due to a more Palestinians on the ground?
Israel will continue to preach that it is the only democracy in the Middle East, and the Israel lobby will follow suit. And members of Congress will continue to second any Israeli words and actions on the reasoning now that Israel is just a different sort of democracy.
But this is the reality and Israel cannot forever deny the Palestinians their rights.
