Another Palestine round-up

According to the Palestinian Center for Human Rights, during the week of 26 March- 01 April 2009, two members of the Palestinian resistance were killed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip. A Palestinian woman died of injuries sustained during the recent Israeli forces offensive on the Gaza Strip. 8 Palestinian civilians, including a PCHR field worker, were injured by Israeli gunfire in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

Never forget or forgive.

The Israeli army confirmed on Thursday a decision to maintain military over flights in Lebanon’s airspace in violation of Security Council Resolution 1701.
The Lebanese Army said that on Wednesday at least 16 Israeli planes staged reconnaissance flights across Lebanon for more than an hour.

You see Israel thinks it can violate Lebanese sovereignty, but if Hezbollah crosses into Israel the Israeli Premier goes to the international community and justifies war against Lebanon because of a breach of sovereignty.

QUESTION: New topic?

QUESTION: New topic. A topic – new topic. Israeli foreign minister said he’s going to meet with Secretary Clinton. Is there any specific date and place set right now?

MR. WOOD: No, they – the Secretary had a conversation with Foreign Minister Lieberman. It was yesterday. It was primarily to congratulate him on coming into his new position, but no dates have been set for any type of meeting.

QUESTION: What about Ambassador Mitchell?

MR. WOOD: He’s going to the region soon. I don’t have dates for you yet, because I don’t think they’ve been worked out, but he’s planning to travel to the area.

Yes, Matt.

QUESTION: Did the Secretary seek from the foreign minister any kind of an assurance on his position regarding a two-state solution in the Annapolis process?

MR. WOOD: It was a brief call. What I can tell you about the call is that she looked forward to getting together with him. But just to make it very clear, Matt, that our position has been for quite some time and remains focused on a two-state solution.

It is okay for American officials to meet with fascists seeking to institute loyalty oaths as long as they’re Israel. This is what is meant by the “special relationship,” more like the “special exception.”

Palestine Round-Up, 2

A festival for Palestinian children. This is how Arabs really live, not the racist caricature that one sees on Western television that dehumanizes Arabs.

J Street, and new pro-Israel groups that bills itself “pro-peace” and “pro-Palestinian” as well goes after new Israeli fascist Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman. Good for them.

And, finally, an eloquent tribute to Gaza by a thoughtful artist from California:

It's time for the 22 Arab countries to open their borders and absorb the Palestinians of Gaza who wish to start a new life. It is time for the Arab world to truly help the Palestinians, not use them

That would be assisting Israel in ethnic cleansing. They should rather force Israel to behave according to international law, and honor the right of return, the basic human rights, and put a stop to the war crime, that is the settlements.

To be born a Palestinian is to be doomed forever to live a life filled with hopelessness, misery, hatred – you will either wind up as a useful human shield or a useless human wretch.

@Thamer

I think people forget that the Palestinians are seen as lower class by other Arabs. I've heard them described by people who lived in the middle east as "the niggers of the Arab world" on more than one occasion. The other Arab states don't help out because they think the Palestinians aren't worth it.

Sad but true.

It is not true that the Arabs have never accepted Palestinian refugees. Jordan and Lebanon both accepted millions of Palestinians in the 1960s and 1970s. In the case of Jordan, millions of Palestinians took Jordanian citizenship.

In the case of Jordan. Integrating so many Palestinians led to civil war and Black September in 1970 when the PLO attempted to topple the government. The civil war in Lebanon in the 1970 and 80s was largely caused by fear that Muslim Palestinians would wipe out Christian Lebanese rule in that country.

Palestinians deserve a home in the country they came from. That is something only Israel can allow.

It’s time for Arab countries not only to absorb the Palestinians but to fight against the Israel- US collectively.
