United States :

The Obama administration has won a key victory against Swiss financial institutions. For months, the administration and the IRS have been hounding Swiss banks to reveal the identities of accounts held by Americans which the Obama administration accuses of using Swiss banking secrecy - or Swiss human rights to be more exact - to “cheat” the government of tax revenues.

Obama's Attack on Swiss Banks & Working People

The Obama administration has won and the Swiss banks will reveal such identities for the IRS to then send out federal agents on vendettas. Liberals will boost that Obama is finally going after those “greedy” rich tax “cheats” and that these people are to be condemned for having the temerity to protect their money. How wrong their world view is.

A few months backs, liberal Democrats held a Congressional hearing where they self-righteously denounced so-called “tax cheats” for denying the government money that the Congress claimed was rightful theirs, or the government’s. Such a pronouncement is unbecoming in a free society. Pander the logic of these Congresspersons: a man gets up and work hard five-days a week for his benefit and, maybe, that of his dependents. That is his money first and foremost, no? Members of Congress, liberals anyway, would disagree. Their view is that that is the government’s money first and foremost. They believe that individuals must work not to support themselves and then necessary government programs (like the court, police and national defense), but that we work so that politicians can have first dibs on our paychecks and hand out an increasing amount of it their special-interest groups that finance their reelection (unions, farm subsidies, art funding, ect...). Individuals do not have a right to their money as much as the government first has a right to redistribute it and then - no doubt due to its generosity - leave the individual the residual; that is the thinking of these unconstitutional members of Congress.

That is why they are outraged that some Americans - unfairly burdened with high taxes - would dare to save some of their money from the tax collectors, money that would otherwise be handed out in the form of farm subsidies or some crap like that.

The only reason Americans make use of tax havens is because taxes are so high. If taxes were lower, people would feel less of a need to save money offshore. But as long as the government continues to impose high taxes for unjustified reasons, then people not only will continue to hide money overseas but have every moral right to do so.

That is our hard earned money. We, not the politicians and lobbyists, have first dibs. We should support the government but not special-interest programs subsidies, foreign aid, ect... These politicians - Barack Obama included - who think that people work for them rather than the other way around and seek to make hard-working Americans out to be the bad guy need to be told: UP YOURS!

Americans are right to hide their money overseas as long as taxes remain high and will continue to do so. If not Switzerland, then elsewhere...
