Obama Transition Team and Lobbyists

Barack Obama transition team will continue its campaign principle of denying Washington lobbyist a role. The Obama campaign refused official lobbyist donations during the political season, Obama was the only (or among few) candidates to refuse official lobbyists donations.

The transition team will bar any lobbyists from working on the transition. Lobbyist donations will be banned.

Though if someone was a former lobbyist, they can work with the transition team just not on any matters dealing with something on which the previously lobbied with regards to.

If one works on the transition team and then leaves to become a lobbyist, they can advise the administration on any matter on which they worked on during the transition for a period of 12 months.

The Obama team will probably implant such a rule for actual staff when the Obama White House takes office, by with a longer time frame. If the rule is put into effect it will bar an former staffer from lobbying the administration for two years on any matter they previously worked on.

“I’ve heard the other complaint, which is we’re leaving all these experts on the side. . . . We’re leaving all the people who know everything out in the cold. And so be it,” said transition chief John D. Podesta.

Obama might be real change after all (for those who doubted him).
