Few presidents set themselves up for failure like Obama. The Hope and Change candidate stroked unhealthy levels of fanfare to historic levels. Thus he came in to office destined to fail to meet expectations. Obama was always going to disappoint, but so soon and so much?

Nealy ten months in and Obama has now passed a single piece of his domestic agenda. They only thing done is a stimulus package. And many parts of his agenda looked in trouble. Take health care. Still uncertain and the president has consistently pushed back his “deadlines”. Take foreign policy: Israel’s Netanyahu was able to meet Obama in a face-to-face confrontation and the most powerful man in the world blinked and turned his request for an illegal settlement “freeze” into a call for “restraint.”

And Obama has put too much stock into his personality. He’s a nice guy, but nice does not get the job done. Obama thinks that if he says the right words and is friendly things will happen for him. Well, that did not cut it in Copenhagen and it’s not going to do in Washington.

But these liberals who feel in love if Obama have only themselves to blame for allowing their expectations to rise to such irrational levels.
