Microsoft Calls for Arab Unity

The great and courageous Microsoft has decided to play an active role in the Arab world. More than that it is adopting the language of pan-Arabism.

The software company has recently called for nothing short of Arab unity in...combating pirating.

A Microsoft official made the call during an event held for World Intellectual Property Day. How nice of him.

As may be well-known, piracy is quite ubiquitous in the Arab world. Of course, Americans trade more in pirated software and media than Arabs, but in the United States it is done in private residence. In the Arab world, it is a public affair.

Microsoft Calls for Arab Unity

Where my family’s home is in Tunis, within walking distance there are five stores that sell pirated software and media. It is done in daylight by legitimate businesses whom have a license and pay taxes.

Even the French supermarket chain Carrefour sells pirated movies and music. Why would even a foreign store sell pirated material? When Carrefour first opened it used to sell real DVDs. But there was one problem: no one can really afford them. Tunisians do not have the money, for the most part, to buy DVDs priced at $15 and software marked higher. That is why the government tolerates piracy. The only alternative is denying people such services.

IT companies and Hollywood executives often state that piracy equals X and that then loss equals Y. But this is a gross fallacy. They look at, say, DVD piracy sells in Tunisia at 15 million copies a year. And then assume that at $15 a copy they are losing $225 million a year. But they are losing not even a fraction of that, because if the DVDs were not pirated Tunisians would not buy the real copy anyway. They only way they are going to purchase a movie is if it costs a dollar. Purchases of A at a set price cannot be arbitrary be made to be B at another price. Microsoft is another this illusion that if only the piracy would stop, it would make much more money off of Arabs.

And what about making money off of Arabs? Microsoft famously has a research center in Israel. Such companies are unworthy of Arab customers. I hope the douches at Microsoft lose sleep over piracy in the Arab world. And Arab unity should not be marshaled for the benefit of Microsoft, but for the benefit of Palestinians.

In percentage of population, computer literacy in the Arab world is pretty low compared to the western world. I seriously doubt that Microsoft considers the Arab world a major market at present, and not for the next few years, at least.

Then there’s the boycott, of course. Would Microsoft be willing to abandon its most prolific and efficient R&D facility in Israel in favor of the Arab boycott? Somehow, I doubt it.

Here we see the extremes of two people Micheal and Marco that have a head with no ears, spilling out reasons and excuses why the other side is evil and that reflects their cultures views
No wonder there is no peace if this is how the sides think and play the blame game
Political extremism involves two prime ingredients: an excessively simple diagnosis of the world’s ills, and a conviction that there are identifiable villains back of it all and these two are a good example of this
A few grammer mistakes for micheal that can’t get a message unless it is perfect English —people are dizzy

Thanks, Wayne, it’s always good to hear from my fans...

On a more serious note, my comment was made purely from a business standpoint as far as Microsoft is concerned.

Microsoft’s R&D facility in Israel wrote large sections of Windows and Office, along with the various language permutations– programs that are Microsoft’s foundation. It’s highly unlikely that a commercial company will divest itself of its best moneymaker for what is, at best, a marginal market. Figure out the numbers for yourself...

As for your getting dizzy, go to an ENT specialist... maybe you have Meniere’s Syndrome.

first there was more of a meaning to your response than you want to admit because i have been reading your and marco trying to defend each other’s position with no ears or common sence you two are the example of why the world is a mess both so culturally brainwashed you both would destroy the world for your brainwashed views
Knowing your personality i wrote what your response would be
you and marco might think your deafening your positions but your both looking stupid to logic
oh-by the way when trying to make yourself look more inteligent by using words most haven’t heard off it only makes you look more narsistic than you are
for those who might be wondering what his insult might mean–The prevalence of Meniere’s disease is difficult to assess. One population study found that 15.3 per 100,000 individuals develop Meniere’s disease annually. Of these, one-third eventually develop the disease in the second ear as well.
you or marco couldn’t carry one once of my common sence
more english errors for the arrogant

Microsoft’s software is notorious for its faulty make up. Apple’s deservedly mocks Windows for its constant crashed, freezes and poor security patch. Unlike when buying an Apple, anyone who operates on Windows must always buy an additional security program lest the computer become infected by a virus at some point.

Even with Vista, Microsoft has not been able to develop a high-quality software operator comparable to Apple’s

I always wondered why such a big firm with to much money to invest in R&D could not fix its bugs. Now, I know! Microsoft’s main R&D is in ”Israel”. No wonder Windows is such crap.
