The Jackson family has decided to hold a memorial for their late son at Los Angeles’ Staple Center. Jackson died last week from what was probably a strong dependence on prescription drugs.
The family’s decision to have an open memorial, which will probably be broadcast, was made as a tribute to the fans whom made Jackson a star.
But, of course, not all will be allowed in. The Staple Center will have room only for 11,000 fans. Instead of selling tickets, fans will instead submit their names in a lottery and then be randomly selected.
Fans who do not want to watch it at home, but along other fans at a venue will have another opportunity. Another lottery with 6,500 tickets will be available for a live simulcast at L.A. brand new Nokia Center.
Those without tickets have been encouraged not to try to get in. Police plan to create a radius around the Staple Center and prevent anyone without a ticket from entering the area.
As to what the service will include, all details - including whether Jackson’s body will even be present - have remained confidential. There will be no funeral procession.
Jackson’s service will be broadcast live to the world this Tuesday.
