For years the Israeli government, which refuses to officially acknowledge the practice, has been sending text messages to Lebanese asking them if they have any information for missing Israeli occupation troop and fighter pilot Ron Arad.
Arad was shot down over Lebanon in 1986. He has been missing ever since despite repeated attempts by Israel to secure his release through negotiations.
The text refers people to a website: 10million.org. They are then informed that if they have any information as to the whereabouts of Arad the informant will be rewarded $10 million. 10million.org was set up by a foundation founded by the Israeli government.
Arad is presumed dead, Israel is just trying to obtain his body.
The Lebanese army has instructed Lebanese not to respond to the text and that any cooperation is punishable collaboration with an enemy nation that routinely kills Lebanese and violates the country’s sovereignty.
The latest ploy is an example of such violation, the army said in a statement.
The text is meant to identify the whereabouts of other missing occupation soldiers as well.
