Angelina Jolie is one of those actors is who genuinely bright and really cares about the issues she champions. Most Hollywood liberals are just superficial, vulgar phonies whom know nothing about anything only claim to ostensible care about this or that issue all because their agent advised them that it would make them look thoughtful. Of course, Madonna, Susan Saradon et al are vapid douches who just read the NY Times editorial page and then left from it Talking Points and try to sound smart. Watching these people feign intellectual ability is just torture. F@ck Them!

But Jolie is different. She doesn’t just wear a pointless ribbon to an award show. She does real work, in contrast. She is a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and it is not just a media gig. She personally enlisted after doing a UNHCR-themed film and actually travels in that capacity to places most Hollywood celebrities would never even fly over unless an endorsement deal was at stake.

Jolie has visited sub-Saharan Africa, Palestinian refugees and now she and her husband have visited Iraqi refugees:

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt met with Iraqi refugees in Syria on Friday as part of a goodwill mission, says parade.com. The couple spoke with two families who have suffered violence amid the social unrest in Iraq.

“I’m grateful to you for sharing this story,” Jolie told a mother who was kidnapped and assaulted. “It helps to make it easier to understand your problems ... you’re a very brave and strong woman for putting this behind you for the sake of your children.”

Such visits lift the spirits of the forgotten people in our world. She and Pitt are to be commended. But she does have one shameful moment:

“when angelie jolie visited iraq as a representative of UNHCR in 2007 she also visited the al walid camp on the iraqi side of the border with syria. over one thousand palestinians who had lived in baghdad have fled there for protection from shiite militias. jolie received a call from american democratic senator kennedy telling her not to use the word ‘palestinian’ though. so she told UNHCR that they cant use it in their press about the subject. so the palestinians were referred to as iraqis instead. international officials were surprised that even the word ‘palestinian’ is taboo. UNHCR is very discouraged with her toting the american party line. in the 2007 trip she surprised the UNHCR officials, telling them that she wanted to visit the american soldiers. they were against this because she was there as an official UNHCR representative, and tried to explain to her how it would also endanger their staff in iraq by blurring the line between the UN and the american military. the international committee for the red cross was also upset, because as it is the line between humanitarian aid and the american occupation and military is blurred in iraq. her most recent trip to iraq was not even an official UNHCR trip. UNHCR was not aware that she was invited to baghdad and it was very embarrassing for them.”

It is beyond disgraceful that she would refuse to identify Palestinian refugees as “Palestinian” because some disgraceful, vulgar Zionist and now dead Senator told her not to. What? Does the Israeli lobby take stands on this? And why she visited American occupation troops is beyond me. Especially pretending that she did it in the same field as her past humanitarian work . Visiting an occupation army is anything but. To be fair, Angelina did visit Palestinian refugees during other times and identified them as such. And I will never forget that during Israel’s massacre of Palestinians in Gaza she told a reporter that her mind is on Gaza. She is a good person who was probably just intimidated by Senator Kennedy’s status. She clearly is pro-Palestinians (as is George Clooney).

On a separate but related note: Jolie wants to be Arab. She visits Arabs, has a home in Dubai and even an Arab tattoo she got in Cairo. And she, remember, has Gaza in her heart.
