Barack Obama skyrocketed to the presidency not due to any political achievements, but solely on his ability to give a good speech and act as a catalyst for which people projected their hopes on to.
Obama was an undistinguished state senator and in his two years in the Senate before announcing his run for the presidency Obama accomplished nothing to his name. Sure, he worked on legislation but can anyone name an Obama-So So Act? Obama is not an empty suit, of course. A fmr. editor of the Harvard Law Review and a young senator, he had achieved much. But that makes he as qualified to be president as the rest of the Senate chamber. What distinguished Obama was simply “OBAMA”. “OBAMA” is a political star; a young, handsome and charismatic Senator who could inspire crowds with uplifting rhetoric and at the same time heal the nation’s racial wounds. That is what Obama ran on: his ability to inspire.
His strongest assets is not his policies, but his ability to sell them. No modern president is so dependent on charm rather than substance. If his ability to sell his proposals is lost, Obama’s political capital declines significantly.
And there are signs that the American people are about getting tired consistently seeing Obama in the media. A new poll reveals that 49% of Americans want to see less of Obama on T.V. His celebrity, originally an asset, may turn into a liability as people just get feed up with too much “inspiration.” That will hurt Obama’s political capital.
Obama has certainly done a lot to promote his status. But in this case, the media’s love affair with the candidate may ironically undermine the very same presidency they seek to promote. This is not Obama’s fault and he cannot really control it. It was not Obama who asked NBC to profile his White House as the douchbag phony Brian Williams did. It is unfortunate when one cannot end a negative factor, Obama is powerless is the media is still enthralled with him and will continue to write fawning stories and promote his face every time he makes a public appearance.

The American people have woken up from an 8 year nightmare. They will not be too easily be distracted by the republican bait and switch tactics. Obama still has that appeal of early days.
