The Dutch Labor party, the second largest party in the coalition government led by the centrist CDA party, has called for an economic boycott against Israel if the Netanyahu-Lieberman government refuses to pursue peace.

Dutch Party Call for Israel Boycott

Labor party leader Martijn van Dam has stated that his party will take their recommendation to Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen [CDA] next week. Van Dam stated that Israel must take “concrete” steps to bring about peace, and that includes talking to Hamas. Van Dam lamented that Hamas was listed as a terrorist group by the European Union.

Van Dam also condemned Israel’s new far-right and racist Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman as “an extremist who is on the brink of racism.”

Noting the Lieberman-Netanyahu government, Van Dam added, “This is not a government with much prospect for peace.”

Whether the Labor can get the CDA to agree to a boycott remains uncertain for now and probably unlikely since the foreign minister has a reputation for supporting Israel.

“The only one who thinks that the positions of the Israeli government will not have any consequences is Maxim Verhagen,” van Dam stated.

It will be interested to see how discussions will progress.

All the peace loving people should pressurize the Israel to hold the peace talks with Palestinian leaders. The new rightist government of Israel has not shown any positive sign towards restoring peace in that area.

The tragic present of eviction, destruction of property and the effects of the Wall on Palestinians is continually being unaddressed.

Something has to be done by the rest of the arab countries.

Most of all, we don't want no "agitation". Any "agitation" may disturb the reveries of American Zionist supporters.

Amazing! Hamas has been firing rockets into Israel for years. Suicide bombers have claimed hundreds of Israeli lives over the past few years. Peace talks didn't accomplish anything. Hamas broke the cease fires each time. So when Israel finally says, "Enough!" and goes into the Gaza and cleans Hamas' clock, a bunch of Gaza supporters decide that it's time to boycott Israel. These fools are so arrogant and absolutely ridiculous! They blame Israel for killing civilians, but they never say anything about Hamas putting its weapons in private homes, or about their total lack of concern for civilians except when they can get publicity or propaganda out of it.
