One has to have some degree of sympathy for Hillary Clinton. She put off her ambitions for that of her husband’s and then was humiliated by him. A nomination and presidency she thought was entitled to her was ran off with by a novice who was a community organizer as she was working on her husband’s presidential campaign.
Her consolation prize: the State Department; is nice but Hillary is still second-fiddle to Obama’s tone and Bill Clinton still overshadows her from time to time as his recent mission to N. Korea to free two American journalists exemplifies.
Given that, her recent fiery exchange should not have been such a surprise.
Clinton was in Kinshasa, Congo taking students from students at a Congolese university. One student asked her what does President Obama thinks about Chinese financial involvement in Congo, but a translator misspoke and presented the question to Clinton as to what President Clinton thinks. Clinton snapped:
And with good reason. She has worked hard and she is the Secretary of State, she has been in Bill’s shadow for too long, and now when she is the top U.S. diplomat someone has the temerity [of so she thought] to ask her what her husband thinks! She is not some spokeswoman or “mouth” for Bill, she is her own woman and, boy, if you forget she’ll remind you.
