Venezuela’s autocrat Hugo Chavez has gone after the opposition, labor unions, media, term limits, courts, foreign businesses, domestic businesses and anything that hasn’t subdued itself to his “21st Century Socialism.”

Now Chavez has gone after the popular animated show “Family Guy.” Networks that air it will be fined. If you’re wondering, “Why would Chavez be opposed to Family Guy?” Then you need to watch Family Guy more closely.

I mean, the show is littered with pro-capitalist messages. Like this scene here:

As you can see this seemingly innocent scene has pro-British, thus pro-free market and, alas, pro-imperialist, undertones. Clearly, you can appreciate Chavez’s rage.

Sometimes I watch Family Guy and think “the writers must have read Mises.”

Joking, of course, here’s the real reason:

Justice Minister Tareck El Aissami says the program should be pulled from the airwaves because it promotes the use of marijuana.

El Aissami was outraged by a recent episode in which the show’s characters started a campaign to legalize marijuana.

He said Thursday that cable networks that broadcast “Family Guy” would be fined by Venezuela’s telecommunications regulator if they refuse to dump the program.

But Venezuelans need not despair, the network can replace Family Guy with the entertaining Chavez speeches they will now be forced to carry.
