United Arab Emirates :

The American media will often highlight some event in the Arab world, particularly the oil-rich Gulf, to subtly mock Arabs as being buffoons whom squander their money.

Don’t get me wrong: Oil wealthy in the Gulf was been squandered to the tone of billions over the years on prostitution-obsessed, cocaine-using, lavish-spending idiot Saudi princes. Recently an unknown Saudi princes purchased a $50,000 golden penis-extender. An prominent Saudi prince Prince `Abdul-`Aziz bin Fahd, the favorite son of the late King Fahd, developed a pathetic obsession with the Baywatch actress Yaseem Bleeth and gave her millions in gifts to win her heart. She took the gifts, but never dated him.

I have no shortage of material in my mockery of spending habits on ignorant, delusional and moronic Saudi princes. They behavior is criminal considering that millions of Saudis still live in poverty, to say nothing of Arabs (and all people) elsewhere.

But camel shows are not one of them:

The emirate of Abu Dhabi has begun preparations for a 10-day “camel beauty show” in that offers millions of dollars in prize money and promises fame for the owners of winning animals.

This story did not appear (as far as I know) in the American press, but it fits the requirements of a “mock Arabs” story. Camels shows are stupid, but are they really as stupid as the extravagant dog shows that Americans host and broadcast live. I doubt more money is spent on camels, which are easy to groom, than on all the dogs that Americans love to spoil. And so what if dogs can do better tricks than camels, they sure as hell cannot lift more weight.

So let the Gulf Arabs have their camels.

(By the way, on the linked Maktoob website, preparations for the U.A.E. camel show is listed under “breaking news.” Is it, really?)

Every country has its own culture. Some flaunt their dogs, others camels. I think both are similar... a pet is a pet, be it a dog or a camel.

I read somewhere that people tie small children with the camels in the camel race in arab countries. The child cries out of fear and the more loudly he cries, camel runs faster... it is true??

I wonder why can't people leave the animals alone. Why use them for your personal benefits or amusements?
