Barcelona, Spain is one of the most amazing cities in the world. After Paris, it is my favorite city in the world. As soon as I walked out of the Underground and on the streets of this busy city on a cool day at 8:30 pm as the sun was setting, I immediately felt the welcome of this friendly city. Barcelona is an incredible city that immediately pulls you in. The weather is amazing. The layout is beautiful: wide streets with classic architecture running parallel. The food is good. It boosts a huge port and an amazing beach [which is quasi-nude, if you’re into that]. And, the women are beautiful.

In short, Barcelona is a near perfect city. I say near because there is one deficit in the city. Nothing big overall, but pretty annoying. At night, the city is filled with drug dealers. These are not your D.C. or New York drug dealers whom stay in the back alleys. Barcelona drug dealers walk along the city equivalent of a Pennsylvania or Fifth Avenue.

The hold cans of beer which they offer to sell. But the beers are just a legally innocent decoy. The game is that those who want drugs agree to buy beer and are instead given drugs. These men are everywhere offering “cold beer, beer”. The ask almost every young person they see. After being offered by the first few guys it gets really fucking annoying when every five minutes an ugly douchbag is offering you “cold beer” in an annoying accent. It drove me insane one night when I was approached over 50 times, and I state that without exaggeration. It is outstanding they way one guy saw us and came running to offer us “coke cola”. I was thinking: what is the matter with this idiot? He knows that my friends and I have walked this far up the promenade and he knows that it is dotted with drug dealers, does he think that he want drugs but passed down all those guys only to eagerly buy drugs from him? It is the most obnoxious thing. I am “I wanted drugs I would have bought it already, what do you think I am waiting for a pretty face to score coke from?” And why would the asshole come running? People who want drugs are the one’s whom are eager. People who want drugs seek out drug dealers not the other way around. These beer-carrying dealers are incredible annoying and an ugly eye sore in a beautiful city. The Barcelona police, of course, know they are selling drugs and yet nothing, it appears, is done. The city needs to make an example of 50 or so dealers and stamp out these assholes.

Then there is the city’s African-imported prostitutes. Barcelona is lucky, I guess, in that its prostitutes are decently dressed. But, as with the dealers, they do not hide in “red light” districts but walk around looking clients along La Rambla avenue; the city’s most prominent street. These prostitutes are a major problem for they turnoff tourists, particularly families. It is simply beyond the pale that such a major European city would tolerate such open selling of sex. I personally saw men buying prostitutes. Such behavior is inappropriate along prominent streets that families frequent.

Barcelona is near perfect, they need to deal with these two problems in order to achieve the perfect status they are worthy of.
