After being kicked around by Apple for years in the firms famous PC v. Mac commercials, Microsoft has finally hit back with its own smart ad.
The series of “I am PC” commercials feature normal American browsing for notebooks and before settling on a Windows-run PC they casually dismiss Apple’s hardware for being too expensive [which it is].
The commercials are very effective during normal times since the question the wisdom of spending so much on a Mac, but naturally more so during an economic recession when people have less money to spend.
Apple has resented these ads, and instead of crafting its own Madison Avenue response had decided to whine.
An Apple legal representative has asked Microsoft to “stop running” the ads because the ads are ostensible unfair because Apple has cut its prices.
Apple knows the ads are effective as a Brandindex measures recently shows Microsoft’s brand gaining as Apple is losing.
Apple had the gull to lecture Microsoft when Apple has been attacking Microsoft for years on its software deficiency, why does not Microsoft have the right to attack Apple’s over-prices software which is still too expensive even with the price cut. Of course Microsoft has the right, but Apple is a spoiled entitlement child.
And this move is pathetic. It portrays Apple as weak. I used to have high regard for Apple’s competitive spirit, it now is waning.
Microsoft has issued the following reply: “We’re just going to keep running them and running them and running them.”
Good for them!
